On optimal lockdown policies while facing socioeconomic costs

چکیده

Abstract The paper analyzes the optimal lockdown policy using SQAIRD model over a network with three population groups (young, adult, and old). We show that different policies may be justified by socioeconomic structures (objective cost functions are either convex or concave). also is always better than laissez-faire policy, targeted specific to each group outperforms uniform policy. In our benchmark example, we consider case of Italy. Our simulations that: (a) because it limits costs generated pandemic in an uncontrolled situation; (b) group-specific lockout more effective extent differ. latter less expensive (as optimally minimizes direct, indirect, vaccination costs), equally controlling pandemic. One finding particular interest rate should higher for young elderly adults. This motivated fact younger individuals likely spread virus question asymptomatically.

The optimal behaviour of firms facing stochastic costs

This paper aims at assessing the optimal behavior of a firm facing stochastic costs of production. In an imperfectly competitive setting, we evaluate to what extent a firm may decide to locate part of its production in other markets different from which it is actually settled. This decision is taken in a stochastic environment. Portfolio theory is used to derive the optimal solution for the int...

On optimal portfolio trading strategies for an investor facing transactions costs in a continuous trading market

Modern asset pricing theory generally assumes frictionless trading. Under this assumption, an investor would revise his portfolio holdings at every date on which he could trade. However, in models where an investor faces financial market frictions such as transactions costs, the portfolio is optimally rebalanced less frequently. This paper examines the portfolio trading problem for an investor ...

Optimal Insurance Policies in the Presence of Costs

We reconsider costs in insurance, and suggest a new type of cost function, which we argue is a natural choice when there are relatively small, but frequent, claims. If a fixed cost is incurred each time a claim is made, we obtain a Pareto optimal deductible even if the cost function does not vary with the indemnity. The classical result says that deductibles appear if and only if costs are vari...

Optimal Policies for Inventory Systems with Concave Ordering Costs

In this paper we characterize the structure of optimal policies for periodic review inventory systems with concave ordering costs. By extending the Scarf (1958) model to systems with piecewise linear concave ordering costs, we show the optimality of generalized (s, S) policies for general demand distributions. We do so by (a) introducing a conditional monotonicity property for the order-up-to l...

On optimal polling policies

In a single server polling system, the server visits the queues according to a routing policy and while at a queue serves some or all of the customers there according to a service policy. A polling (or scheduling) policy is a sequence of decisions on whether to serve a customer, idle the server, or switch the server to another queue. The goal of this paper is to nd polling policies that stochas...
